Most of you know by now that I’ve overcome a lot in my life in order to be where I am today. My story isn’t tragic. It’s just the sort of everyday tragedy of living inside of The Gray Box.
Maybe you’re like I was once. You’re not exactly depressed, but you’re also not thriving. You aren’t waking up every day and finding meaning in what you do. You like your life and your career just fine, but you don’t love it. The time to do the things that you really want to be doing are always taken up by the needs and concerns of others, from kids to spouses to bosses to customers.
Somehow, you lose track of time, amidst the email pings or the Facebook posts. And you don’t have time to create a business. Somehow, it’s easier to focus on the urgent things in our lives…not the important.
I know. It happens to me, too. But I have tricks up my sleeve now. I know what’s important to me and I don’t let things derail me from going after it – including the voices in my head that whisper that it would be so much easier to just regurgitate other people’s ideas in this blog, rather than open my veins and let the words pour out (okay, I did sort of steal that line).
Because my mission is to inspire people to love what they do. I want to coach others who want to break out of the gray box and do their own thing – whether that be a small business, start-up, or entrepreneur – whatever you call yourself, I want to help you to do it, using the same tools that I use every day to make sure that I stay on track with my core vision.
Identify what you most need to be doing to move your business forward, today.
It’s hard to say what will be most helpful for you, but if you are still in the exploratory mode of your business, then it’s most likely networking. Actually, at most stages of your business, the answer to what you need to do today is usually networking, though we tend to shrink from that word and its implications. (I know, I know, don’t hate me!) Here are some ways to make networking a lot easier.
If you’re exploring and researching, then networking can take the form of informational interviews, aka “I’m exploring this niche and want to know more about you and how you did what you did.” People love to talk about themselves and their businesses! The more you focus on the WIIFM (What’s in it for me) factor in your networking, the better.
But maybe you’re already doing a lot of networking, and there’s something else that you really need to do to get your business rolling. Setting up your newsletter? Calling clients? Writing an opt-in? Finishing the book? Getting that website created? You know what it is that you’re not doing.
What would it take to get it done this week?
What’s holding you back?
Of course, it’s very easy to say: hey, start your business. But easier said than done. Right? Yeah, I know.
Focus on the important, not the urgent.
Most people who are pursuing something different than the norm (I can’t speak for everyone, of course) have these same concerns, but how do you get past them?
And that’s where coaching comes in.
My clients and I work through the fears that spring up when we attempt to focus on the important. I hold you accountable to do the work that’s necessary to go forward, even despite the fears. With my unique process, you are guided to your own best version of success.
