Y’all, I want to start by saying that if you’ve read any of my blogs before, you know I’m not actually a fan of blog titles like this one. They’re too bull-shit-y. Too promotion-ish.
I have a serious love-hate relationship with them. But here’s the thing…would you have read this blog if I’d called it “How to Add Your Opt-in to Your Facebook Page”?
Probably not.
Hence, the promo-y name. Because I really do want to share the things I’ve learned with you. I want you to succeed. I want us all to be super successful and to meet on the beach in Bali and raise a glass (mine might be hot tea) to each other.
Clink!
Okay, so essentially, all I did to gain those new subscribers was to add a cool picture to my Facebook biz page. However, there are a lot of steps behind that that I’m going to detail here, in case you need to know the rest.
1. Create an amazing opt-in or lead magnet, aka that freebie.
(If you want to know how to do that, here’s my 3 Step Plan to Growing Your Email List like…whoa, which details step-by-step how to come up with your amazing lead magnet. It’s especially meant for spiritualpreneurs and spiritually-minded entrepreneurs.)
2. Create a landing page on your website or email responder (like Mailchimp, Convertkit, etc.) that details what people will receive from your freebie.
So the free version of Mailchimp only allows you to create a very basic landing page (Mailchimp calls them forms).
The ability to create cool landing pages is one of the big reasons people switch to a more advanced email responder like Convertkit, Aweber, or Mailerlite (Converkit landing pages are what I used below) or something like Lead Pages (which will integrate with Mailchimp or any of the other email responders.)
And if you are thinking “Erin, Erin, Erin, I really don’t want to spend any more money”, then my personal pick would be Mailerlite for both landing page + email marketing (no, that’s not an affiliate link.)
You can create a pretty cool landing page (with pictures/graphics) using just the free version of Mailerlite. See the example my friend Gemma created for our recent Entrepreneur Success Summit below. That’s just to show you what it can do and was designed for a summit, not a freebie, so don’t feel the need to go all out like that for your freebie (it gets very in depth if you scroll down.)
3. Create a sign-up button on your Facebook biz page.
We could debate here whether or not you need a FB biz page…but that’s a subject for another time. For now, let’s assume you have one. The way you create your button is by right-clicking right the space where that button is below, highlighted with red circle. (Since I already created one, it’s only allowing me to edit/delete/etc., but if you don’t have a button already, it would say “create button”.)
You have multiple options from Facebook, including:
- Book Now
- Contact Us
- Use App
- Play Game
- Shop Now
- Watch Video
“Sign up” seemed to be best for well, signing up, but you could experiment with any of these, as long as you aren’t saying something that isn’t really going to happen. I.e. if you used “play game” and then directed me to a landing page…I would be a little nonplussed. Pissed off. And you don’t want to piss off potential clients.
4. Link your FB button to your landing page URL.
5. Create a FB cover for your Facebook biz page that highlights your sign-up button.
I used Canva because it’s so easy, and they already have the Facebook cover dimensions. All you need to do is add in a few Canva shapes over a picture (Canva also has free pictures and pictures that cost $1.) If all of that sounds like crazy talk to you, then consider having someone on Fiverr design one for you. I’ve found that as long as you are very, very clear about what you need, you can get exceptional design work on Fiverr for not too much (though it might be more than $5!) Feel free to direct them to my page as an example.
6. Let those ideal peeps roll in…without promoting anything!
And if you want someone to do ALL of this for you, from content creation of your PDF to editing to actually linking that all up to Facebook and your email provider, then let me know. My team and I can do this all for you, either as part of a 1:1 coaching program or a la carte. Contact me here.
Here’s to you and all of your amazing new ideal clients!
