Have you ever done a diamond push-up? Like a beast?
So I’ve been going to this boot camp in my neighborhood on Sunday mornings. And last week, we had to do diamond push-ups.
Now, I like to think of myself as fairly fit. I work out. I jog, swim, walk, lift weights, whatever.
But diamond push-ups are not part of my routine. And so I’m there, on my knees, girl-style, trying to do my first set of diamond push-ups, when I look over to the small, petite 60+ year old woman next to me,
…and she’s killing it.
I mean, like Marine style, getting those diamond push-ups DONE. As my 8-year old who watches too much Youtube would say “like a beast”.
So here’s the crazy part. Before that day, I hadn’t really considered not starting out on my knees. Not just going out there and seeing how many I could do. Until I saw the Rockstar woman next to me doing it, I didn’t even know it was possible.
I mean, I just thought I couldn’t do them, so I didn’t even try.
Messed up, right?
So of course I had to ask her how she did it. And she told me her secret.
Ready?
She practices.
She started with just a couple, and worked up to 100 push-ups per day. The real kind, people.
All right…here’s the analogy. So many of us (myself included) think when we’re starting or building a business things like this:
- There’s a magic formula out there
- The next tool/modality/experience/etc. will be what moves me forward
- Someone else has the answers
Y’all, the magic formula is this: the awesomeness of YOU plus persistence. Practice. Getting up and doing that mother-fucking next push-up, even when it’s hard, even when it sucks, even when your arms are screaming.
Claim your value. Claim your awesomeness. Get out there and shout it from the rooftops.
And then do it all again tomorrow.
Sending you so much love on this magical ride,
Erin
